東京理科大学 A英3: Memories of a trip to Hokkaido・北海道の旅行の思い出こと

Hello!

How are you? I will tell you about a summer trip to Hokkaido I made in the summer of 2012 with my wife and her family. Take a look at these pictures!

First, we went to Sapporo

We walked around Sapporo. This was me in front of the old Sapporo City Hall (元札幌市役所).

We went to Hokkaido University. This was me. This is the famous statue that says "Boys be ambitious" (ボイズ・ビ・アンビシャス).

We took the train to Otaru. The man with the hat and backpack is my father-in-law (義理のお父さん). We walked around many places in Otaru!

We ate a lot of great food in Otaru. We drank some great beer in Otaru. This was a big glass!

Then we went back to Sapporo and walked around more. We got very hot and we sat down. We were tired, but happy!

Hope you enjoyed this! Now how about your memories?

電気通信大学 ASE & AWE II: Welcome back! お帰りなさい!

Hello!

How are you? Welcome back to all the classes for the second semester! Many of you are continuing with me, and I'm happy to have you back for the new term. But for those who are new to my classes - I'm happy to have new faces too!

Let me show you some things from my summer. The map above shows Perth, Australia. It's the largest city on the west coast of Australia, and the fourth-largest city in Australia, after Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. While I was born in the U.S., I grew up in Perth, and I went back there from September 6th-16th to see my brother, who still lives there, and his family, plus my cousin.

I had a great time and many experiences, and there were some memories for me. Here's one thing I won't forget. Take a look at this picture!

As you can see, I am feeding a nice little kangaroo! My cousin has friends who own a bed and breakfast hotel in a small town south of Perth, and we went there to see them. On their property around the hotel, they have all kinds of animals, including four pet kangaroos, and they let me pet and feed one of them.

But I saw many things like this, off the southeast coast, that I hadn't seen before:

If you look a little to the left of the picture, directly ahead, far in the distance, you will go to Antarctica, all the way to the South Pole! This is not so far from where my cousin lives!

Now here are a few shots of the Hay Street Mall, one of the most famous locations in Perth. It's like a Ginza for Perth, with shops, cafes, and restaurants:

This was the entrance to the Piccadilly Theater, a movie theater I went to sometimes when I was a child. It doesn't show movies anymore, but it is such a famous building that the Perth city government  kept the front and outside of the theater and made it a shopping arcade!

There are many old buildings that have been kept well along the Hay Street Mall, like this one:

 Plus this one as well:

Here is a shot of the Perth skyline - not a very good one, but the best I could get! It was unfortunately a cloudy day when I could get this picture.

There are many more things I could show you, but this post could get very long, and I don't want to be boring to all of you! So how about your summer? Let's talk and write about what we did, and anything that we learned, over the summer. (I learned some things I didn't know over this summer. How about you?)

It's great to be back and I'm glad to see all of you. Take care!

See you next class!

ECA (英語基礎表現) II (P): 観光

Hello!

How are you? Today let's look at sightseeing (観光) places!

Where would you like to go and what would you like to see

The picture above comes from my summer trip to Vietnam. I took it from my hotel room. I presented at a conference (研究会), then I went sightseeing after. The place I was in had a famous fort (), and I took some pictures. This place was so big! Here's a picture of one part of the fort, with me in it:

What sightseeing places would you like to go to in Japan, or other countries?

Activity

Look at these pictures. Do you know what these places are? Do you know where are they? Take some guesses!

ECA (Speaking) I (All): 娯楽、場所、イベント

Hello!

Image "Fun At Pay" courtesy reeDigitalPhotos.net
How are you? Here's a post about entertainment (娯楽), places (場所) and events (イベント)!

What kinds of places or events would you like to go and see? Look at these places and events. Which ones do you like? Which ones are interesting? Which ones do you like? Which one do you like the best? Which one is the most interesting? Talk (and write) about these places and events

例えば:

A: What do you want to do - go to a live concert or fireworks festival
B: Hmm...a live concert
A: A live concert? How come?
B: Because I love live music. How about you?
A: Well, it's okay, but I think fireworks festival is more exciting for me.
B:

Now try this - look at these pictures. Mix and match them and talk about places and events you would like to go to!

a ryokan

a live concert

 an open-air market

a festival

a cafe

(no picture)
your own idea(s)!

Have fun!
