How are you? Here is a supporting post of presentation tips, links, and hints, with a models of presentations, for all of your short presentation projects for both the Listening & Speaking and 技術英語 classes.

Space and time do not let me go into a full post on the topics. So I have created blogpost pages on Power Point tips and hints, and on outlining for presentations, for all of you if you need them. 

So go to this link for tips and hints on Power Point presentation design.

While making an outline (あらすじ) is optional and you do not have to make one, it might help you organize your speaking better. If you want to make an outline, go to this link about outlining for scientific and technical presentation topics. 

Presentation tips and examples
Here are three (3) videos for you on presentation that may help you. Rather than making a separate post, I have decided to include them here. 

The first one is a funny, but important one on good and bad presentation habits: 



The second one is on the ideal structure for an engineering presentation. While this is aimed more towards the mechanical engineering students, it should be useful as well for the IT students in our class:

The third one is a TED Talk from a 12-year-old app developer. It's a great real-life model for a confident, informative, and interesting presentation. While it is oriented around IT, it also is a good model for our engineering majors as well:

東京理科大学 Listening & Speaking 1a: 1st presentation topic・プレゼンテーション 1

Hello!

How are you? Today I will show you about our first (1st) presentations for this class. 

Topics

Here are your choice of topics. You can choose one (1) of these: 

•    Problems and issues of international relations 

•    Issues and solutions about the environment

•    Facts and other interesting things about space or our solar system

Deadline (締め切り)

Your presentation day will be on June 10th (6/10), so you have three (3) weeks to prepare them. Please be ready on the day to present. 

Guidelines

1. Prepare a rough draft of a summary (要約) about the topic you want to present on. The summary will be due next week (5/27). 

The summary should have a short introduction showing the topic and any issues or problems, or interesting points about it. Then you should show what you will then present on with these issues, problems, or points are. It should be short, and indicate (指し示して) what aspect of the topic (話題の向き) you will present on. Here is an example:

例えば：While the Earth has the volume of water to sustain life, researchers believe that traces of water exist on the other planets of the Solar System. This presentation will look at the planets in our Solar System that are likely to have water, and if so, what kinds of life they may be able to sustain. 

2. You will see a topic preparation sheet that comes with the handout. You do not have to use this sheet if you feel it is not useful for you - but you may find it useful as a working record of your preparation about your topic. It could help you to organize ideas and steps for your presentation preparation. 

*You will also see a student evaluation sheet, with a space at the top to write the final draft of your summary. You will not evaluate your own presentation! Instead, all of you will be in groups, and present to each other in groups. You will mark your classmates' presentations in your groups, and they will mark your presentation.

After we are finished with the presentations, you will hand in the evaluation sheet with your final summary to me. 

3. Be ready for me to review your progress next week (5/27). I will let you work on your presentations in-class. On 6/3, we will practice our presentations in-class. You can practice with me and/or other groups of students.

* This is very important! You don't have to have the presentation 100% finished on 5/27 - but you have to have enough content so you can work more on it to the finish and be ready to practice on 6/3!

4. Finalize your presentation outside of class and be ready to present on the day of your class!

ECA (Travel English, English Through Songs, & Culture B): 中間プレゼンテーションポスター

Hello! 

How are you? I'd like to show a collection of poster presentations from some different classes - Travel English, Culture B, English Through Songs, and my great speaking classes.

I'm proud of your work and want to show it here to you and others! The posters here are from Travel English, English through Songs, and Culture B.

The one at the top is from Travel English, on some great presentations on food from other countries and cultures. This one is about the food of Vietnam. I'm hungry already!

ECA (Travel English): 秋期・中間プレゼンテーションについて

Hello!

How are you? This post is about mid-term presentations (中間プレゼンテーション).  Our topic will be food from different countries and cultures!

Think about the Mexican dishes from our lesson on Santa Fe, New Mexico. You can present about some Mexican dishes - or you can choose some dishes from another country and culture.  

We'll do our presentations in class in our 8th week (8週) in groups, so this will be like an exam - so it's important to work with classmates you like! 

Your group can do a Power Point presentation, but if you want to do a poster presentation, this is what you need: 

Guidelines for posters (ポスターの指導基準)
1) Your group will need one (1) A1-size sheet of poster paper. You can get this paper from a store that sells pens, paper and notebooks. One sheet costs 150 yen.　

2) Make the pictures big, to A4 size. Have 2-3 of these pictures on your posters.

Here is an example of a presentation poster about Chinese food:

4-6 pictures of two or three different dishes
Ingredients to each dish
Recipe for each dish
Which part of a country the dish comes from

ECA (Culture) B: 中間プレゼンテーションについて

Hello!

This post will help you to think about mid-term presentations (中間プレゼンテーション). I will show you some examples of poster presentations. Our topic will be on marriage customs in different cultures. 

Guidelines (指導基準)
We'll do our presentations in class in our 8th week (8週), so this will be like an exam!
