ECA (英語基礎表現) II (P): 観光

Hello!


How are you? Today let's look at sightseeing (観光) places! 

Where would you like to go and what would you like to see

The picture above comes from my summer trip to Vietnam. I took it from my hotel room. I presented at a conference (研究会), then I went sightseeing after. The place I was in had a famous fort (), and I took some pictures. This place was so big! Here's a picture of one part of the fort, with me in it:



What sightseeing places would you like to go to in Japan, or other countries?

Homework/activity

1. Watch the videoHow many things can you see in the video? Can you name them? Write down in your notebooks all the things in the flea market you see.

ECA (Travel English): 食べ物と頼みこと

Hello!



How are you? Today we'll look at foodordering, and tipping

Look at this video below. It's from an English class in the U.S. about ordering in a restaurant. Let's watch it! You can watch it more than once. 



Take notes on what is happening to answer these questions:

1. What kinds of things does the waitress say before she takes the customer's order?

2. What drink does the customer order?
3. Why does the waitress ask to see the customer's ID card?
4. What appetizer does the customer order?
5. What kind of steak does the customer order?
6. How does the customer want the steak cooked?
7. What kind of dressing does the customer want on her salad?
8. What kind of sauce does she want on her baked potato?

Activity

Now let's do a restaurant scenario with a waiter and customer

Homework

In the U.S., a restaurant tip is usually about 15% of the total bill. In your notebooks, work out what 15% of the total bill is for these restaurant bills:

$27.50
$29.75
$44.87
$68.62

Write these tips in your notes and bring them to class next time.

What kind of hotel would you like to stay in? Let's look at some pictures of different hotels.

Talk about all these different hotels and places! Which ones would you like to stay in? Which one(s) do you recommend to your classmates? 

Homework
Find 2-3 pictures of a hotel in another part of Japan or in another countryBring the pictures to the next class and show themTalk about why you would like to stay at this hotel. Find out how much a room costs per nightwhat kinds of things there are at this hotel (swimming pool(s), restaurants, gym and so on), and what sightseeing (観光  spots there are in the area of the hotel.

Look at the picture above. What feelings do you get about the place in the picture? What adjectives (形容詞) do you think of when you see this place

Homework
Here is a homework activity for you. Look at these pictures. Choose one and write a paragraph of 4-5 sentences about it.
