How are you? Today let's look at the most populous places on Earth - places with the most people in the world.
The picture above is of Delhi, India. It has a population (人口) of 26,454,000 as of 2016. That's incredible!
What might be more incredible is that Tokyo has even more people than Delhi. But there are many cities in the world with big populations.
Here's another one - Sao Paulo, Brazil:

Activity/homework Now here's a question for all of you: What kinds of problems do you imagine happen in such crowded cities? Think about a lot of things - transportation, housing, food, education, and so on.
Talk about these things with your classmates.

How are you? Today, for our last class of the year, let's do something a little different - let's look at some famousfestivals (祭り) around the world!
The picture above is of a unique festival held every year in the U.S. called Burning Man. It's held in the western desert, in Nevada, every summer.
I won't tell you any more about it because today we'll do an activity about it, and some other festivals around the world, where you have to find out about it! Here's what we'll do:
Activity
1. Get together with others in a group. Look at the top picture again, and then look at the pictures of some other festivals in different countries.
Tomatina festival, Spain
Rio Carnaval, Brazil
Tet festival, Vietnam
Oktoberfest, Germany
Canadian National Exhibition, Canada
Holi, India
2. Now your group choose one (1) event. Go on the Internet and find out the following things:
Where exactly the events are located in the country
What kinds of things people can do there
When these events are held
How to get to the location all the way from Japan
3. Now your group pair up with another group. Teach the other group about what you found out, and let the other group teach you about their festival.

How are you? Today I will show you some presentations on immigration (移民) and refugee (難民) topics, like the refugee topic one at the top here.
We will do some short presentations about immigrants and refugees and problems they may have when coming to Japan or other countries. Here are some great posters from students I had last year doing the same topics.

How are you? This post is about your mid-term presentations (中間プレゼンテーション). I will show you some examples of poster presentations.
Guidelines (指導基準) 特別: We'll do our presentations in class in our7th week,so this will be like an exam - so it's important to work with classmates you like! Your group can do a Power Point presentation, but if you want to do a poster presentation, this is what you need.
1) Your groupwill needone (1) A1-size sheet of poster paper. You can get this paperfrom astore that sells pens, paper and notebooks. One sheetcosts150 yen.
2) Make the pictures big,to A4 size. Have 2-3 of thesepictures on your posters.
Here are some examples of presentation posters. They come from a friend of mine who's a professor at Chuo University, in the law faculty (中央大学法学部). Their topic was immigration (移住)- people from other countries moving to Japan, or Japanese moving to other countries. Look at these:

Lookat these. Make the pictures of the posters bigger. You can get ideas about how you can design your presentation posters. I have some other examples of poster presentations I can show you too.

How are you? Hope you've all had a good weekend.
As you all can see, here's a video above - it's about English castles. Tomohiro Onuki is interested in buildings in England, so I thought he might find this video interesting. Tomohiro - watch it and tell me what you think. For anybody in the ESS - have any of you ever been to England? Have you ever seen a real English castle? Talk about it with each other!
Here's something for Yuki Nakajima and the Hoshi ESS: Yuki - you have said that you enjoy snowboarding and are the president of the snowboarding club, and that you would like to write more in English.
So here's something to cool you down on our warm days - for you, Yuki, and anyone else in the Hoshi ESS who loves snowboarding - here's a video of Shaun White, the great American snowboarder!
Yuki - I know you are busy but sometime, when you have a chance - write something short about what snowboarding means to you, and share with me - ask me for my email address and you can send it to me.
Here's something else for Mika Takahashi and the ESS: Mika - you've said you're in the Hoshi dance club. What do you think of this? It's a video of the Brazilian fighting dance, the capoeira:
Tell me what you think of it! For those of you in the ESS - do you dance? And do you know about capoeira? If you like dancing, this might be really interesting to you. Tell your dancing friends about it.
For Aya Oguchi and the ESS, here's something different. Look at this picture:
They're all happy! Aya - you've said that your two favorite words are "happy" and "smile." So tell me - or tell your friends - what are three (3) things that make you happy?Think, say and finish this sentence:
Three things that make me happy are ____________________, ____________________ and ____________________.
Aya - do this and tell me next class! And for all of you in the ESS - next time you meet each other for an ESS get-together, pass this idea around and say and share your ideas about what make you happy with each other! Finally - for Yuki Yamazaki - you have said you teach chemistry to junior high school students. So I have a question:
What's the biggest challenge to you about teaching chemistry to young students?Tell me what you think sometime. (And by the way - what's this famous drug in the picture above?)
