特別ポスト: 節のフォーマット、ルール

Hello to all my students,

Image "Line Sheet With Pen" courtesy of adamr/ FreeDigitalPhotos.net

How are you? This is a re-post of notes, with a few changes, about formatting paragraphs (節をフォーマット) plus some rules about writing names of places in English.

NOTES
These notes are things to do in your writing.

1. Remember that you are not writing sentences. You are writing paragraphs (). For example:

My life at Shibaura            My life at university is good.
My life at Shibaura            I have made many friends here.
My life at Shibaura            The classes are hard.
My life at Shibaura            So far I enjoy this school.

Please format like this:

My life at university is good. I have made many friends here. The classes are hard. So far I enjoy this school.

2. Connect your sentences to make longer ones. For example:

My life at university is good and I have made many friends here. The classes are hard, but so far I enjoy this school.

Finally, remember to put capital letters for days of the week and months. For example:

wednesday Wednesday       october 3rd   October 3rd

Also - names of places are not in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS, or with "quotes" around the names. For example:

I went to "Kurihama beach" in August. I went to Kurihama beach in August.
I really love going to HAKONE.  I really love going to Hakone.

I will show you more on formatting and rules for titles of songs, albums, books and stories soon.

See you next week!

特別ポスト:The Small Book of Big People continued review

Hello to all my students,

Image "Smiling Girl With The Milk Glass" courtesy of imagerymajestic/FreeDigitalPhotos.net

How are you? Here is another collection of paragraphs by you for The Small Book of Big People. Take a look at these.

My favorite singer is Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. She has been popular among the younger generation. Her career as a fashion model started when she was still a high school student in the streets of Harajyuku. Her looks are pretty because they are so individual. She usually is wearing fantastic clothes. For example, bloodshed shoes, and a dress made of candy. They are very interesting. Her personality is mysterious. When she appears on television, she does not smile. I have never seen her smile. But I love her.

That's great - she's everywhere now in Asia. Look at this one too:

The person whom I respect is my friend Kaede. She is a person from Kansai who came over to Kanto to study. She is an always-spirited girl. She loves people very much and is generous. She tells people immediately what she thinks. I do not speak my feelings so clearly, I respect her for her way of life, even though she is still very shy. There is the one side resembling her, so she is my important friend.

Making friends in new situations and places is important, and also fun! How about this:

My exceptional person is my mother. My mother is very strict. I was not very good in club, so it bad to my mother. But she encouraged and supported me before than anyone more. But I was not even grateful to mother. I hung in there even if it was hard. Favorite phrase of my mother is “please live healthily.” So I think I would like to return the favor even a little to my mother. Therefore I work so hard to the college life now. Someday, I want to help someone like my mother.

Let's not forget our family members too! Read this one too:

Kim Jeajung is the most famous Korean singer. I think he is cool, mysterious, cute, a gentleman, elegant, smart and he sings very well! When I was 13 years old, I saw him for the first time on a TV music program when he appeared with the group he is famous for, Touhoushinki. When they sung, I was very surprised by their songs, and his beautiful voice especially shocked me. This group became famous in Japan, and he rose in popularity. I often listened to their songs then. Their beautiful harmonies relaxed me and cheered me up, especially his voice. He is now the face of Korean cosmetics store called Tony Mory. It profited thanks to him. I think his popularity shows no sign of abating. Recently, he has become an actor playing the leading roles in two films. I think he will have become a huge star! I want to continue to cheer for him, and I will love him forever.

Now take a look at this one. It's quite moving, I think. What do you think of it?

I don’t have a person now that I respect, but in the future I want to be be a person that many people respect.
I have a dream that nobody has. My dream is to be someone that can change something in this world, this world with many problems and many dirty things, and many selfish people, but with many more things that are very beautiful.
I don’t know how to be a great person that is capable of changing the world, but I came to this university to search that, to search how to evolve.
So now, I am not a person that can be in this book, but in ten or twenty years I hope to be one of the “big people.”

Now that's a great one. I hope this person can in fact be that one who makes a difference in the world someday.

Let's remember! If you want to refresh yourself more on the exceptional people paragraphs in July, click on this link for Part 1 here, Part 2 here, Part 3 here, and Part 4 here.

I have a little more to do on this book, but hope this helps you to remember the great work I know you can do. Let's have a great semester together.

See you next time!
