How are you? Good job and a big otsukaresamadeshita on the presentations last week! 

For the mechanical engineering students of our class, here is a short video to go with your reading about the famous Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Spain - the lifetime achievement of the great Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. It remained unfinished in his own lifetime, and under construction for decades after. 

The picture above is a model of the full structure, with the parts already completed in brown. 

In 2026, however, it is scheduled to finally be completed. This video shows some facts and interesting details about the Sagrada Família, and the architecture and engineering involved with it. 

I hope this can help with your understanding about the reading.

How are you? Today, let's look at the Tenerife airport disaster (テネリフェ空港ジャンボ機衝突事故) in 1977. Have you ever heard about it? If you haven't - then today you'll find out!

The map above shows where it happened - on the island of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The Canary Islands are controlled by Spain.

Watch the video below. It is a re-creation of the accident. 

If you go to YouTube at this link, you can turn on Japanese subtitles (字幕) if you need them. 

As you watch, make notes about each step of events that led to the accident. 

Watch the video as many times as you want or need. What do you see that happened? How do you think it could have been prevented? 

When you are finished, explain what happened to your classmates based on what you watched plus your notes.

How are you? Here is a final presentation supporting post for any groups in A英1 interested in the Tenerife airport disaster (テネリフェ空港ジャンボ機衝突事故) in 1976. 

This can give any of the groups interested in this theme some more background as to what happened in this disaster, and how it happened.

ECA (Travel English): 海外の有名な祭り

How are you? Today, for our last class of the year, let's do something a little different - let's look at some famous festivals (祭り) around the world! 

The picture above is of a unique festival held every year in the U.S. called Burning Man. It's held in the western desert, in Nevada, every summer. 

I won't tell you any more about it because today we'll do an activity about it, and some other festivals around the world, where you have to find out about it! Here's what we'll do:

Activity

1. Get together with others in a group. Look at the top picture again, and then look at the pictures of some other festivals in different countries. 

Tomatina festival, Spain

Rio Carnaval, Brazil

Tet festival, Vietnam

Oktoberfest, Germany

Canadian National Exhibition, Canada

Holi, India

2. Now your group choose one (1) event. Go on the Internet and find out the following things:

• Where exactly the events are located in the country
• What kinds of things people can do there
• When these events are held
• How to get to the location all the way from Japan

3. Now your group pair up with another group. Teach the other group about what you found out, and let the other group teach you about their festival.

Look at this next picture. It looks like a quiet beach now, but it was once a place where great history was made. Click on this link to find out more about this place.

Now look at this next picture again. This was the birthplace of a famous person from the 20th century. Click on this link here to find out about who the person was.

How are you? Today we'll start a new theme - about love and marriage. 

In our first reading today, we read about a marriage custom in another culture. Take a look at the list of countries and cultures below: f countries and cultures below:

This homework will be a little different than what we did before. 

Part 1 - choose a country/culture and begin finding out a few facts about their marriage customs - do this by next week (12/11).

*Important rule! Every pair has to choose a different country/culture! Do not do the same country/culture as another pair! 

Part 2 - after next week (12/11), we will then find out more in detail about the country's/culture's marriage customs. I will tell you more about what you can do then.
