電気通信大学 AWE II: Writing about music・音楽が書いて

Hello!

How are you? Today here are four pieces of music. Listen to these as many times as you want or need. Make some notes on them as you listen.

We are later going to think about what we wrote to this music - and select two of these pieces of music you particularly liked and add more to your writing about it!

Here is the first one - Erik Satie's "Ragtime Parade":

Here's the second one - "Dog Trot," by Moondog:

Here is the third oneFrank Zappa's "Little Umbrellas":

Now here is the last one - "Green Onions," by Booker T. & the MGs:

What do you think of these pieces of music?

Activity/Pre-class preparation
Now look at your notes about this music from the first time you heard each one. Choose one (1) piece of music you felt was the most interesting to you and contrast it with another one of the other pieces of music you liked.

While you don't have to know anything about music to do this, think about these points when you are contrasting the two (2) pieces of music you selected:

  • dynamics of the sound (the tones, the instruments you heard, which instruments were the most dominant in the sound)
  • the mood of the music (calm, tension, excitement, and/or sense of release)
  • what the music suggests to you (what kind of a scenario or story might you imagine from it)
Now write a practice paragraph about the two pieces of music you selected in your notebooks.

Have fun with this! I'll look forward to seeing what you wrote about the music you chose to write more about.

See you next time!
