Hello!
Topic
How are you? Here is the information about our ASE II third (3rd) presentation topic for the year in total and first for the fall semester - and AWE II fourth (4th) writing assignment in total and first for the fall.
(I have been pinched for time and have not had the time to make separate posts for both classes, so I'm sorry for putting it all on one post!)
For both ASE and AWE II, here is the task: comparing and contrasting similarities and differences in educational systems
between Japan and another country.
While I have given all of you the handout for the topic in both classes, I will post it here as a reminder to all of you as to what you can do.
Topic
ASE II
With a small group of classmates of your choosing, choose any country to compare and contrast with Japan to make a two-sided argument about the advantages and disadvantages of education between Japan and another country.
AWE II
Choose a country to compare and contrast with Japan to make a two-sided argument about the advantages and disadvantages of education between Japan and another country.
While I showed you the videos on the blogpost about education in Finland, India, and South Korea, you do not have to limit yourself on education in those countries - in fact, I encourage you to find other videos and readings on educational systems in other countries.

Similarly, you can choose any
level of education as your point of comparison and contrast – elementary,
junior high school, high school, and university. (Please remember to
compare and contrast the same levels of
education – for example, advantages or disadvantages of elementary school in
Japan with advantages or disadvantages of elementary school in Germany, or advantages
or disadvantages of high school in Japan with advantages or disadvantages of high
school in Russia).
You can also focus on science education, if you like. This may require more research from your group, but you may find this more interesting. How does the quality of science education in Japan compare with the quality of science education in another country? What would arguments for the strength of science education in Japan be versus any strengths of science education in another country?

Deadline (締め切り)
ASE II
We will do these on November 21st (11/21), so you have two (2) weeks to prepare these. You can work with a group of your choosing to make group presentations of 6-8 minutes each, including a Q&A from the others you will present to.

Important: You can choose to do Power Point or make a poster. If you use Power Point, however, your group has to bring its own laptop computer! Please remember this.
AWE II
The deadline will be December 1st (12/1), so you have three (3) weeks to draft and write these.

Guidelines
For ASE II:
For ASE II:
1.
Prepare a summary (要約) with
your partners about what you will present on. The summary will be due,
and handed in next week on November 14th.
2.
With your classmates, fill in the topic
preparation sheet that comes with this handout. There is a section on it to fill out the
summary. As we have done before, this is a working
record of your group’s preparation
about your topic.
3.
Be ready for me to review your progress next week (11/14) and for your group to practice
your presentation in-class. You can practice with me and/or other groups of students.
4.
Finalize your group’s presentation
outside of class and be ready to present
on 11/21!
For AWE II:
1. Write a first draft (下書き) and
a summary (要約)
about what you will write on. I want to see your first drafts, and ask you
to show me your summaries, next week on November 17th.
2. Fill in the draft planning sheets that
come with the handout I gave you. There is a section on it where you can
fill in your summary. As we have done before, this is a working record
of your drafting and preparation about your topic.
3. Be ready for me to review your progress next week (11/17). (Remember - you do not have to be 100% finished! If you can show maybe 80% of a rough draft in pencil that is good enough.) Then you can start writing your final version to hand in on December 1st.

Notes for ASE II
I have decided to add these notes for ASE II here instead of making a separate post. These are shots of board notes from the ASE II class on 11/7, including the presentation groups. For ASE II students - please take a look at these.

A space is left blank for absent ASE II students this week to form a group next week.
Good luck! See all of you next week!
