特別ポスト - ECA (英語基礎表現) II (Super A): Words on Music

Hello,

How are you? Here I will introduce some of your writing that will go into a collection called Words on Music. It's writing on the pieces of music such as the ones you have done.

I hope you can enjoy this writing again. I was very impressed with what many of you did in writing about music from Jacques Loussier's version of Bach's Siciliano in G Minor. Here is the music from YouTube once again:

Now here are some selections you wrote about this music:

The main melody was very beautiful but sad. I felt the sound of piano fantastic, and I also felt something mysterious. It brought me to the world of fantasy, separated from the reality. It made me imagine the story.

In a small town in Austria, there was the calm lake floating some red lotuses. It was in the park far from any buildings, and it was near the forests. The silence controlled the all-time in the park. The place was not warm but little bit cold. The season was early spring. No one was there but a crying young girl sitting on the bench in front of the lake. She looked twelve or thirteen. Her face was pain badly because she lost her favorite clarinet given by her grandmother. She would often play the clarinet in the park and she loved the time passed so slowly.

She knew that she had to go home and tell her grandmother the truth. But she was reluctant to do so then. She did not want to see the sad face of her grandmother and did not have any courage confessing her mistakes. So she wanted to stay in the place any one was not. Only stars knew where she was and what made her cry and stars were shining for her for a long time.

That's fantastic! Here's another:

One teenage girl had sad something, and she escaped her house garden. Soon she was in deep forest.

She ran and ran in the forest, and she got tired. She felt that this forest was maze and lost. She was alone and got sad. However, she thought happy, because she could forget her troubles. At that time, she heard something noise at back little trees. And she turned around. There were little rabbits and they stared at her, because it was strange and nobody have never come in the deep forest, so rabbits were think that today is a special day. Rabbits called to many animals. The many animals were guide to center of the forest. She could see many rabbits, birds, lions, snakes, horses, wolfs, hyenas, elephants and more many kinds animals. She was welcomed. Then, they were enjoyed the party. They ate cakes and drank elegant fruit tea. Then they danced together with splendor music all night. They had a good time. She completely forgot her troubles, and noticed that here is my place to live.

After that, she loved this forest and animals, so she decided that lived in here. They still living with and happy.

Great! Let's check out another:

Once upon a time, a family lived in the big residence in the forest. The family members were father, mother, daughter and a few dogs. They looked happy and the house full of a laughing voice every day. However, since all of them passed away, around the residence became quiet. The building also became sad.

One day, big storm came to the forest. Because of it, the residence became worse and worse. However, after few years, many plants came up around the residence but also in the residence. A lot of seeds were carried by the storm. Many animals lived in the forest gather this residence and started living in there.

Very good! I'm impressed! Now I would like to show some selections of what you wrote about another piece of music - Miles Davis' "Portia." Here is the music from YouTube again:

Now here are some selections of your writing about this music:

There were two groups of people at the back street. One of them were black people. Another of them were white people. They had an argument and they were going to solve the problem by playing basketball. Then they started the basketball match. They were both strong and the basketball was threw in the basket almost the same times. They thought even if they continued to play the match, they couldn’t get the result. Finally, they forgot the reason of their argument and they just because the basketball match, they became good basketball friends. This was the story of friendship of boys.

Interesting! I don't know that I would have imagined this from this music. Here's more:

In the street of American downtown, there was a drunk man. He was walking home but his walking foot was not neat, his cheek was completely red showed everyone he was drunk. He was singing the song no one knew, and he also did not knew. He thought that the life was lonely and no meaning. He felt that the time flew so quickly and he did not do what he really want to do.

But, actually, he had a home he had to go back, and there must be his wife older than him. And he was sure she got an angry with him but waiting for him without sleeping even if he went back at midnight. He thought shouting was the hobby of his cruel wife and he was tired of her shouting. Without feeling down, he could not think about going home. So he tried to forget about his home and to stay with pleasant as much as possible. The full moon looked at him and smiled because of the peace.

Also interesting! A real story here too. Here's yet another:

There was a party that held at the highest floor in a building that had fifty stories. The people at the party wore luxury clothes and very expensive accessories. Some of them talked and some of them ate refreshments.

After a while, a group of jazz musician began their performances, everyone at the party looked at it and listened to them. These performers were so great that there was no sound except for the beautiful and relaxed sounds from them. They just listend to them and were impressed. When it ended, everyone stood up and aplauded.

After the performance, the programs of the party almost ended, so one after another began to go home, one after another. Finally the party venue became empty.

Wow! From so much activity to silence.

Finally, here are two selections about this piece of music - Frank Zappa's "Little Umbrellas." Here is the music from YouTube:

Let's read this one!

When I listened to this song, I could think of The Forbidden City, because this kind of melody was often played in Chinese drama. I can imagine that in The Forbidden City, some palace maids were dancing and singing. The emperor and other palace members were watching them. All the servants had to kowtow to the emperor when he entered the room. When they finished performance, they also needed to kowtow to the emperor. Just imagine them through this melody, we can know the magnificent singing and dancing scenes in Tang dynasty at the height of its prosperity. So, music is magic and always fascinated us in the way that it communicates. Without words, without pictures, the melody makes me feel enjoyable. I love music!

That's incredible! A Chinese feeling from Frank Zappa - who never went to China! Now here's one more:

One heavy rainy day, a detective stories’ writer was thinking about his new work. Actually he was a schizophrenic. His mental retardation showed it effect when he couldn’t thought out his new works. He had a grand piano. To play the piano is the way of solve his stress. By the way, he was really good at playing the piano. He played the classical music all the time. At that time, he could see the scene of the detective story then he went to write the new story. Maybe this was his supernatural power that no one known.

A detective story - with a piano. I never would have thought!

So good job on these! Read these again and comment in the comments section if you have time.

See you next class!
