電気通信大学 ASE I: Presentation topic 2・プレゼンテーション 2

Hello!

How are you? Today I will introduce our  second (2nd) presentation topic - key inventions or discoveries in science and technology.

See the picture above. It's a section of deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA. The discovery of DNA is one of the great breakthroughs of science in the 20th century.

Topic approach
I would like you to approach your presentation preparation  in one of two ways. Choose one (1) way:

1. Select one (1) invention or discovery in a similar area of science or technology, either that was accidental or deliberate – for example, in mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry or IT – and present a one-sided argument about the merits (or demerits) of the invention or discovery.

2. For a greater challenge - select two (2) similar inventions or discoveries in a similar area of science or technology,  either that were accidental or deliberate – and compare and contrast the two inventions or discoveries.

Then – present a one-sided argument for which invention or discovery you believe overall was the more successful, or has had the greater impact in the world - in its merits (or  demerits).

Deadline (締め切り)
We will do these on June 25th (6/25), so you have two (2) weeks to prepare.

Guidelines
1. If you would like to do Power Point you are free to do so - but as we did before, you must bring your own device (computer or tablet). Let me know if you want to do a Power Point show. Have a slide that would show the summary (要約) of your topic.

2. As for posters, A3 size is good, though if you would like to go a little larger, that is okay. But show a section on your poster where you would write a summary of your topic.

Here are the board notes for our class on 6/11:

Good luck! See you next time!

電気通信大学 ASE I: Scientific discoveries・科学的発見

Hello!

How are you? Today, let's look at some important scientific discoveries of the last 200 years. There are so many, so we'll look at some key ones!

Look at the picture above. It's of Dolly the sheep, the world's first cloned animal. While Dolly did not live long, the cloning of this sheep has helped us to learn much more about what is involved with cloning, how it can advance biological and medical science - and also what the dangers of cloning could be.

Activity

Look at the terms below. Can you match them to the right pictures? After you finish, talk about whatever you know or can guess about these discoveries.

Here are the board notes for today's (5/28) class:

I hope you find these interesting. Take care!

東京理科大学 A英1: 3rd presentation topic・プレゼンテーション3

Hello!

How are you? Here are the topics and guidelines for our third (3rd) presentation projects for this year.

This is our third presentation cycle because of my mistake in overlooking our second presentations from the second quarter in the spring. That is my fault! I am very sorry about that.

While I have given all of you the handout about the assignment, I am posting it here as well to help remind all of you about what you can do for it.

Topics
Choose one (1) of these topics:
  • Key inventions or discoveries in science and engineering from the Industrial Revolution
  • Problems and solutions of learning a foreign language or an interesting point about a foreign educational system
Deadline (締め切り)
Your presentation day will be on November 19th (11/19), so you have three (3) weeks to prepare them. Please be ready on the day to present.

Guidelines
1. Write a summary (要約) with your partners about the topic you want to present on. The summary will be due next week (来週).

*Go to this link for a review of what should go into a summary. The link is a post about summaries and outlines - for now, only look at the part about summaries! I hope this can help you in your summary writing.

2. With your classmates, fill in the topic preparation sheet that comes with this handout. There is a section on it to write in the summary. This is a working record of your group’s preparation about your topic.

3. Be ready for me to review your progress next week and for your group to practice your presentation in-class on November 12th (11/12). You can practice with me and/or other groups of students.

4. Finalize your presentation outside of class and be ready to present on 11/19!

Good luck! I look forward to our presentation day!

See you next time!

電気通信大学 ASE I: Scientific discoveries・科学的発見

Hello!

How are you? Today, let's look at some important scientific discoveries of the last 200 years. There are so many, so we'll look at some key ones!

Look at the picture above. What is it? It's a model of the atom, proposed by Nils Bohr and Ernest Rutherford in 1913. While we already knew what atoms were, this model helped us understand the structure of atoms better than what we had before.

Activity

Look at the terms below. Can you match them to the right pictures? After you finish, talk about whatever you know or can guess about these discoveries.
