電気通信大学 AE2Y I: Topic 1 presentation & writing assignment

Hello!

How are you? How was your Golden Week?

Today I will introduce our 1st topic presentation and writing assignment

Topics & tasks

Here is our themeMake a short presentation about a news item or issue of your choice, oriented around a problem or controversy with the internet or World Wide Web, showing a one-sided argument for - or against it.

Along with this, write a separate, short 1-2 paragraph reaction about the same topic - basically a written version of your presentation topic, with a summary about the topic at the top, above the written reaction.

Guidelines

You have a choice between making a small poster or a short digital display (such as Power Point).

Prepare something you can speak on for around 4-5 minutes. Have something to get the attention of the classmates you are presenting to - such as a small quiz, or 1-2 questions to see what your classmates might know about your topic.

*You will see the topic preparation sheet & classmate evaluation sheet that comes with the handout. The preparation part of the sheet is working record of your preparation about your topic, and you are free to use it if you like - but you do not have to use it if you don't want.

The classmate evaluation sheet is what you will use to evaluate your classmates in your presentation group.

Very important! Your written reaction is not your summary! It is also not a collection of presentation notes - and you do not write a reaction and read from it. You also do not use your summary to read as presentation notes

Reading from writing, or even from your summary or written notes, is not a presentation! The written reaction is a short composition (作文) of the same topic of the presentation, and will be handed in separately from the presentation.

For posters:

If you choose to make a poster, make it small - around A3 size paper. On your poster have mostly visual aids (photos, charts, graphs, drawings), with a little text - not much! The main thing is to talk from your display.

For digital displays (such as Power Point):

If you choose to do Power Point, for example, make it a short show - have a title slide, then 5-6 main slides with images such as photos, charts, graphs, and/or illustrations, then a closing slide thanking people for their attention. If you want or need video, make sure you can upload and run it in a way so that other presenters can still present comfortably.

Deadline (締め切り

We will do these presentations, and hand in our summaries and written reactions, on May 21st (5/21), so you have two (2) weeks to prepare these.

Next week (5/14), we will do two things

1. Practice our rough presentations - they do not have to be finished! But you should have enough content to practice with - because I will require that you practice.

2. Rough draft (下書き) reaction writing time in class - so bring a computer or tablet!

Good luck! I look forward to seeing, and reading about, your reactions to your choices of topics.

See you next week!
