電気通信大学 AE2Y II: Topic 3 assignment support - peer marking abstracts

Hello!

How are you? Today this is a little unusual post - about peer marking of your classmates' abstracts

Peer marking of abstracts

On this post, you will see a list of questions that you will ask yourselves about a classmate's abstract. You will mark the classmate's abstract using this list, then scoring it on a scale that will be shown under each question. When you are finished, you will add up the score and give it to your classmate, along with his or her abstract.

Then, the classmate will revise (make changes) to the abstract as may be needed.

While you are doing this, your classmate will do the same with your abstract - marking and scoring it,  then handing it back to you to revise as may be needed. So let's start!

Marking points - On a separate piece of paper, make a numbered list, with spaces to write in comments, like this:

Move 1:         1     2     3     4     5

Comment:

Move 2:         1     2     3     4     5

Comment:

Move 3:         1     2     3     4     5

Comment:

Move 4:         1     2     3     4     5

Comment:

Move 5:         1     2     3     4     5

Comment:

So as you can see, the maximum score you can give a person would be 25 points in total.

Now here are the points you will look for in the person's abstract first draft! Let's go!

Move 1 - introduction/background of research/situation
Do the first 2-3 sentences clearly show an introduction, or some larger background, or a situation about the topic or issue that has been reported about in the news, or that there is some research or are some studies about?

Scale - which mark should the person's Move 1 get? If you score from 1-3, the person should revise or improve the Move 1. In addition - please write a short comment or reaction to this point.

1.     I completely disagree with this question
2.     I partially disagree
3.     I disagree
4.     I partially agree
5.     I completely agree

Move 2 - present research/issue/purpose

Do the next 2-3 sentences clearly show some present research about the topic or issue, the topic or issue in its importance, or purpose for why we need to understand the topic or issue and what impact it has on society?

Scale - which mark should the person's Move 2 get? If you score from 1-3, the person should revise or improve the Move 2. In addition - please write a short comment or reaction to this point.

1.     I completely disagree with this question
2.     I partially disagree
3.     I disagree
4.     I partially agree
5.     I completely agree

Move 3 - methods/materials/subjects/proceedings

Do the next sentences clearly show, or indicate, some study or research that has been done, or a timely report or news investigation, or series of reports or investigations? Moreover, when were any of these done, reported, or investigated? (If it shows some study or research, how was it carried out? What was done?)

Scale - which mark should the person's Move 3 get? If you score from 1-3, the person should revise or improve the Move 3. In addition - please write a short comment or reaction to this point.

1.     I completely disagree with this question
2.     I partially disagree
3.     I disagree
4.     I partially agree
5.     I completely agree

Move 4 - results/findings

Does the Move 4 clearly show some results or findings of research, or reports or investigations? What could the person say was a result of the topic or issue right now?

Scale - which mark should the person's Move 4 get? If you score from 1-3, the person should revise or improve the Move 4. In addition - please write a short comment or reaction to this point.

1.     I completely disagree with this question
2.     I partially disagree
3.     I disagree
4.     I partially agree
5.     I completely agree

Move 5 - discussion/conclusion/implications/recommendations

Does the end of the abstract clearly discuss some implications of the topic or issue as a conclusion, and show some recommendations for further study or concern?

Scale - which mark should the person's Move 5 get? If you score from 1-3, the person should revise or improve the Move 5. In addition - please write a short comment or reaction to this point.

1.     I completely disagree with this question
2.     I partially disagree
3.     I disagree
4.     I partially agree
5.     I completely agree

Finally - is the abstract written in paragraph form? And - is it between 200-250 words? (Do a word count!)

After marking

Now here are some final important points - you have to be completely honest with each other in order for this to work! If you see that the person's abstract needs improvement in some way, mark it so and comment on it. You are not attacking a classmate's work! You are helping the person. Likewise, that person is helping you

You have time in class today to improve what you need!

I hope all this will help you. Take care!
