Hello!

How are you? Today I have two (2) things for you - first, the board notes for our class on 9/30 above that finished the textbook unit about aquaculture.

Next, I have a link to a YouTube video which you can access here about our new theme on time on task - with an example from education about how math multiplication tables (九九) are taught in India.

Watch it more than once. What do you think of it? Is this anything like how any of you learned multiplication tables? 

Today we will begin looking at how long it takes to develop skills in things. We will look at many examples from education, and even sports. I hope you find this interesting.

Hello!

How are you? The picture at the top is a hexadecimal multiplication table. It is one of many ways that multiplication (九九) is taught in schools in a number of countries. 

But before we start, here are the board notes for our first class in the Writing & Composition 1b for 9/16: 

Now let's begin our first new theme for the new semester!

Activity/homework
Look at the video below. It's an elementary school math teacher in India showing patterns that children follow there to learn multiplication tables. It's in Hindi (ヒンデュ語), but you can follow the patterns if you look carefully. 

While as science and technology majors you may know and/or understand these patterns already, how would you compare the teacher's method with how you learned multiplication tables in school?
