電気通信大学 AE2Y I: Topic 1 presentation & writing assignment

Hello!

How are you? Today I will introduce our first topic presentation and writing assignment

While I have given all of you the handout about the assignment, I am posting it here as well as another way to help remind you of what you can do for the assignment.

Topics & tasks

You have a choice of topics. Choose one (1) of these:

1. Make a short presentation about a news item or issue of your choice showing a one-sided argument for - or against it.

Along with this, write a separate, short 1-2 paragraph reaction about the same topic - basically a written version of your presentation topic. Please handwrite your reaction.

Guidelines

You have a choice between making a small poster or a short digital display (such as Power Point).

Prepare something you can speak on for around 5-7 minutes. Have something to get the attention of the classmates you are presenting to - such as a small quiz, or 1-2 questions to see what your classmates might know about your topic.

For posters:

If you choose to make a poster, make it small - around A3 size paper. On your poster have mostly visual aids (photos, charts, graphs, drawings), with a little text - not much! The main thing is to talk from your display.

For digital displays (such as Power Point):

If you choose to do Power Point, for example, make it a short show - have a title slide, then 5-6 main slides with images such as photos, charts, graphs, and/or illustrations, then a closing slide thanking people for listening. If you want or need video, make sure you can upload and run it in a way so that other presenters can still present comfortably.

Deadline (締め切り

We will do these presentations, and hand in our written reactions, on May 15th (5/15), so you have two (2) weeks to prepare these.

Good luck! I look forward to seeing, and reading about, your reactions to your choices of topics.

Have a great Golden Week!

電気通信大学 ASE I: Presentation topic 1・プレゼンテーション 1

Hello!

How are you? Today, I'll introduce our 1st presentation topic - a profile about a unique or interesting scientist, engineer, inventor, or other figure from science or technology, with a one-sided argument about what you admire about the person, or what you believe the person’s greatest achievements are (or were).

Take a look at the picture above. It's the famous one of Albert Einstein sticking his tongue out at the camera. What were his greatest achievements? What impact has he had on science - and the world? Here's what you can do!

Deadline (締め切り)
We will do these next week on May 8th (5/8).

Guidelines
1. Prepare a summary (要約) about who you want to present on.

2. Fill in the topic preparation sheet that comes with the handout. There is a section on it to fill out the summary. This is a working record of your preparation about your topic.

3. Make a small, A3-sized poster about your profile figure and be ready for next week (5/8)! We will first practice our presentations and then do the real presentations.

Good luck and have fun! I'll look forward to seeing your great posters about your most admired figures from science or technology.

See you next time!

電気通信大学 ASE I: Identities・正体

Hello!

How are you? Today, let's look at some pictures of famous people. Do you know who they are?

The picture at the top is Justin Bieber. I'm sure all of you know who he is - a very popular singer-songwriter from Canada. What other things do you know about him?

Activity
Now how about these people? Do you know who they are? If you do - what do you know about them?

Talk with your classmates about these people. Who are they? What do they do? What do you - or your classmates - know about them?

See you next time!
