ECA (英語基礎表現) I (Super A): 難民

Hello!

How are you? Today I would like to introduce a new topic about people in difficult situations - such as refugees (難民).

Look at the picture above. What is happening? Where do you think the people are going? Why are they on the boat and why are they leaving where they came from? Talk about this with your classmates. Make some notes about it.

Now do the same with these two following pictures. Who are the people in the pictures? What are they doing? Where are they going? Where might they be coming from? What are they feeling? Talk about these, and make some notes in your notebooks about them.

ECA (Speaking) II (All): 日本に難民の必要

Hello!

File:Evstafiev-travnik-refugees.jpg

How are you? Let's think about our opinions about refugees (難民) and what they need for immigration (移住).

Refugees have many problems, and many things they need. Watch this video. It's mostly in Japanese, but with some English, with Japanese subtitles  (日本語の字幕).

Watch the video as many times as you need to. When you are finished, answer these questions in your notebook about the different parts of the video (you can make notes in English or Japanese):

日本のメッセージ
1. What did the first woman say about coming to Australia as a refugee?
2. What did the second woman say about communication between the government (政府) and refugees?

シンポジウムから待たヒント
What did Ishii-san say about the two women's refugee stories?

日本にできること
What did Moriya-sensei from Hokkaido Educational University (北海道教育大学) say about the needs of refugees?

長野県松本市の取り組み
What did Takizawa-sensei from Toyo Eiwa Women's University graduate school (東洋英和女学院大学大学院) say about help for refugees in Matsumoto city in Nagano (長野県松本市)?

求められる視点
What did Daniel Alkhal (ダニエル・  アルカル ) from the UNHCR (国連難民高等弁務官事務所) say about the three different steps of support refugees need?

Make these notes in your notebook. You can make these notes in Japanese or English.

We will talk more about refugees in Japan - for example, what they need in our towns and cities, and your opinions on how we can make them feel they can be a part of Japanese society.

I hope this is interesting for you.

Take care!

ECA (Travel English): 娯楽、場所、イベント

Hello!

Image "Fun At Party" courtesy of ponsuwan/ FreeDigitalPhotos.net
How are you? Let's talk about entertainment (娯楽), places (場所) and events (イベント)!

When you want to do something on the weekend (Saturday/Sunday), what kinds of places or events would you like to go and see? Look at these places and events. Which ones do you like? Which ones are interesting? Which ones do you like better? Which one do you like the best? Which one is the most interesting? Talk about these places and events!

例えば:

A: What do you want to do - go to a live concert or an open air market?
B: Hmm...a live concert.
A: A live concert? How come?
B: Because I love live music. How about you?
A: Well, it's okay, but I think an open air market is more interesting to go to.
B: …

Now try this - look at these pictures. Mix and match them and talk about places and events you would like to go to!

   a fireworks display

a live concert

 an open-air market

a Japanese street festival

(no picture)
your own idea(s)!

Have fun!

ECA (Culture) A: ボディーランゲージ

Hello!

How are you? Today, let's look at body language (ボディーランゲージ).

I have a video for you here about body language. It's a little long, and in English - but the words are not so important. You can even watch the video with no sound - it might be better if you turn the sound off! Let's watch this, and make some notes while we watch:

What were the body language problems you found in the video? Let's talk about them!

Take care!

ECA (英語基礎表現) I (Super A): 日本に難民の必要

Hello!

How are you? Let's think about our opinions about refugees (難民) and what they need for immigration (移住).

Refugees have many problems, and many things they need. Click on this link to watch a video about the needs of refugees to come to Japan. The video is in both English (with Japanese subtitles - 日本語の字幕) and Japanese.

求められる視点
What did Daniel Alkhal (ダニエル・  アルカル ) from the UNHCR (国連難民高等弁務官事務所) say about the three different steps of support refugees need?

Make these notes in your notebook. You can make these notes in Japanese or English.

We will write a short paper about refugees in Japan - for example, what they need in our towns and cities, and your opinions on how we can make them feel they can be a part of Japanese society. There will be other ideas and things you can also write about with refugees as a topic - I'll support you on what you can do.

I hope this is interesting for you.

Take care!

ECA (Speaking) I (C, W, & A): 話と言うことポスターの例え

Hello!

How are you? Here is a supporting post for you about story presentation posters. The picture at the top here comes from a student poster from last year. Isn't it great?

These are examples of some story posters. Here is the poster with the picture at the top:

Here's another one, in two parts. It doesn't use the pictures like the ones I have uploaded on the blogpost I showed you this week, but students' own pictures:

That was a great one! Now here's another with the same kinds of pictures I have in the blogpost from this week!

That's an interesting one! There are many I could show here, but I thought I would give some small examples of student work.

Take care! See you next time!

How are you? Let's talk about directions (方向)!

Look at these pictures. They are the directions to Seigakuin from Miyahara station, but the pictures are not in the right order (違う順番). With a group or a partner, can you put these pictures in the right order?

When you are finished, can you talk about these directions? Here is some language you can use for the order (順番) of the directions:

First...    go straight...    down this street...    turn right...    turn left...

next to the...    between (the)...    across from (the)...    at (the corner)...
