Hello!

How are you? Today let's look at some different sports in different countries.

Finally - this is a sport I watched as a child in Australia - Australian rules football. What do you think of it? It's another fast sport - so watch it more than once! What other sports is Australian football like?

Activity/homework
Watch these videos, and answer these questions in your notebooks:

1. What equipment and skills do you think you need for hurling?
2. What equipment and skills do you think you need for muay thai?
3. What equipment and skills do you think you need for Australian rules football?

Have fun!

ECA (英語基礎表現) II (Super A): 作文5

Hello!

How are you? Here is a short post about our 5th writing assignment (作文5) - writing about your piece of music

You have already written what you have about each piece of music I played for you in class, and that you heard again from my blogpost.

Task
Edit and if you need to, add some more to your writing about the piece of music you chose. Please remember that it must be 2-4 paragraphs long - the longer the better - with characters and a scenario.

Then, on a separate document, write a short comparison (比較) between the piece of music you chose and another of the pieces of music you heard. Here, you can write about the music itself - what you thought of the sounds, the tempo, even a little about the artists themselves.

Which was the most interesting? Which was the strangest? Which gave you the most unique impression (感想)?

Please remember: For your story, build on it and make it as imaginative as you can. Listen to the music you selected again if you have to or want to.

If you want to listen to the pieces of music I played for you, go to this link with the video files here.

I will look for the paragraphs to be typewritten in 12-point size, with correct formatting. Please look at my handout on correct formatting and style!

Good luck - and enjoy finishing up your stories and comparing which pieces of music you liked or thought were the most interesting! Have fun with them!

The deadline (締め切り) is next week (11/24)!

See you next time!

ECA (Global Understanding): 秋中間プレゼンテーション「少数民族」

Hello!

How are you? The picture above is of Buddhist prayer flags. There are many unique small communities around the world based on ethnic identity, or religion, or language, who live in different places.

The Ainu in Hokkaido are an example of this kind of a community.

Homework/activity
Research about a unique community in a different country and design and present a poster or Power Point show about it. The community can be based on religion (宗教), ethnic identity (エスニシティー), language (言語) , or another unique point you find. Here are some examples of unique communities around the world for you to choose from:

the Irish travelers (Ireland)
the Bretons (northeastern France)
the Basques (southwestern France & northeastern Spain)
Jews of the Jewish Autonomous Oblast (Siberia, Russia)
French-Canadians (Quebec, Canada, and other parts of eastern Canada and the northeastern U.S.)
the Lumbees (North Carolina, the U.S.)
the Sikhs (India)
the Falashas (Ethiopia, Eritrea, Israel)

- or - another community you can find out about.

You can use Internet articles and download pictures too from English, Japanese and other sources. But you must write in English on the posters or in your Power Point slides, and present in English.

As a sample of the kind of research you can do, check out this article here about the Swedish-speaking Finns.

Here's an example of a poster you can design (this one is A3 size - but you can go smaller too!)

Have fun with this - and good luck! Please remember - we will do these presentations on November 28th. But get to work now! Next week I want to see your ideas, notes, and other information you can gather up about your topic.

See you next class!

ECA (英語基礎表現) II (Super A): 音楽

Hello!

How are you? Today I will show you again the four pieces of music I played for you in class last time before the festival break. Listen to these as many times as you want or need.

We are going to think about what we wrote to this music - and select one piece of music you particularly liked and add more to your writing about it!

Here is the first one:

Here's the second one:

Here is the third one:

Now here is the last one:

What did you think of these pieces of music?

Activity/homework
Now look at your writing about this music from the first time you heard each one last time. Choose one (1) piece of music you felt was the most interesting to you and add another paragraph about it. Write more about the characters and scenario you had about it, and make it into a little story.

Have fun with this! I'll look forward to seeing what you wrote about the music you chose to write more about.

See you next time!
